About Bill Crandall
Bill Crandall lives in Washington DC, where he was born. His early years were spent with a guitar, but eventually photography became his mode of expression. Bill's atmospheric photos strike a balance between art and documentary in a search for the essence of places and people.
Bill has traveled across Eastern Europe for a ten-year body of work called East, looking at the evolution of the region since the end of communism. He has received an ArtsLink grant and a US government cultural grant for the series and has exhibited in several countries.
Over the years Bill's editorial work has been published in Das Magazin, Hollands Diep, PHOTO, NY Times Mag, Newsweek, Le Figaro, NY Times, Washington Post, among many others, and has won awards from the NPPA. He has also photographed cover art for several Thievery Corporation CDs.
